Twenty-nine (29) persons who were arrested during the Arise Ghana’s #KromAyeShe demonstration which turned violent have all been granted bail according to lawyers working on their cases.
There were earlier reports that the accused persons were in police custody without the prospects of bail and the lawyers were struggling to get them freed.
Abraham Amaliba, Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) told Power News the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has granted them bail.
“I can tell you on record that the CID has granted bail to all the 28 persons who were arrested during the Tuesday, Arise Ghana Demonstration and let me add that one of the accused person was sick so the police granted him bail yesterday,” Amaliba explained.
He added that “the accused persons have different stories to tell, as some claim to be passer bys, others say they are driver mates but the most important thing is that we have been able to secure bail for all of them.”
Lawyer Amaliba told Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman on Power Midday news that the police were looking for some sureties before releasing some three of the accused but the lawyers have secured their bail as well.
