Asamoah Philip, 26, who together with a friend, one Kwasi Nketia robbed two gold miners at Kotokuom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Regional had been jailed for ten years.
Luck eluded Asamoah Philip and was arrested by a vigilante mob upon hintof robbery attack on the two miners at Kotokuom on January 2, 2022.
Narrating the incident before the Nkawie Circuit Court presided by Nana Brew, the Detective Sergeant Mr Kofi Sarpong said Asamoah Philip and his friend Kwasi Nketia who is on the run, at 2:30pm on January 2, 2022 robbed the two miners at gunpoint and took away gold valued at 13,360 cedis, cash of 350 cedis and a mobile phone.
He said, according to the victims, they were returning from Kotokuom Community Mining site when they heard Kwasi Nketia mentioning one of the victim’s name and greeted him from a bush on Kotokuom- Nkwanfinfin road.
The prosecutor added that, one of the victims after responding to greetings from Kwasi Nketia asked what he was in the bush doing at the time.
Kwasi Nketia, the prosecutor told the Court allegedly responded he was waiting for a pumping machine from his colleagues to prospect for gold in the bush.
Whiles the victims were heading towards home after conversing with accused who is now at large, the accused said, Kwasi Nketia allegedly pounced on the victims with locally manufactured pistol and stick.
The victims, according to Mr Kofi Sarpong attempted to run for their lives but spontaneously, Asamoah Philip emerged from the bush with alleged pistol of Akwasi Nketia sort with stick in his hands.
The two robbers, Mr Kofi Sarpong told the Court, allegedly asked the victims to surrender all their belongings and decided to kill them in revenge of recent killing of robbers around the area but later forgive them, ordered them into the bush where they separately tied the victims hands on their back.
He added, the victims further narrated to the Police that, the two robbers picked an incoming motorbike towards Kwanfinfin.
The prosecutor told the Court that, one of the victims managed to untied his hands and walked to the roadside to pick motorbike to Kotokuom to raise the alarm.
He added that upon calling stakeholders and residents of Kwanfinfin to be on the lookout for the criminals, vigilante mob stopped the motorbike carrying the criminals at Kwanfinfin but Kwasi Nketia the alleged architect of the robbery managed to abscond with the two pistols and belongings of the victims.
The prosecutor added that, the vigilante mob later handed Asamoah Philip over to the Police Petrol team near Kwanfinfin for further action.
Asamoah Philip, however, pleaded guilty of the offence at the Court and was sentence to ten years jail in hard labour whiles the Police is still hunting for Kwasi Nketia to be arraigned before court.
