Ashanti Regional Minister Advice MMDCEs To Eschew Corrupt Practices

‘Kindly eschew corrupt practices and ensure transparency in all that you do’, this was noted by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, as he swears in 39 out of the 43 confirmed MMDCEs in the Ashanti Region on October 8, 2021.

According to the Minister, the President in pursuant to Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and section 20(I) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), nominated Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) as announced by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Hon Dan Botwe on September 19, 2021. As a general sign of confidence in the nominees, “twenty-three (23) of the nominees received one hundred percent (100%) approval from their Assemblies. Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah thus expressed his appreciation to the assembly members for the confidence reposed in the president’s nominees.

Hon Simon Osei-Mensah advised the Chief Executives to be tolerant to all views. He also reminded them that the job at hand called for teamwork and dedication therefore they must work conjointly with all identifiable stakeholders to help realize the objectives of the assembly.

He further reminded the MMDCEs of their duties as enshrined in section 20 (2) of the Local Governance Act, 2016, (Act 936), to the effect that they are responsible for the daily performance of the executive and administrative functions of the District Assembly. And also, to be responsible for the Supervision of Departments of the Assembly and preside at meetings of the Executive Committee of the District Assembly.

Pledging their commitment to duty, a representative of the MMDCEs, Hon. Alexander Frimpong, MCE of Asante Akim South indicated that they will work assiduously to uplift their respective assemblies.
