ATWIMA MEDIA PRACTITIONERS APPLAUD WESTERN REGIONAL POLICE COMMAND FOR BRING SEKONDI TAKORADI MCE TO ORDER

I have the permission of members of the Atwima Media Practitioners Association to issue this statement to applaud the Western Regional Police Command headed by DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman for arresting the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi Takoradi, Mr Abdul-Mumin Issah over alleged traffic and other offences punishable the Law.

The Western Regional Police Command as we have been told on Wednesday February 2, at around 8:30pm arrested the Sekondi Takoradi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Abdul-Mumin Issah for alleged motor traffic offence, offensive conduct and verbal assault against one Inspector Sarfo Andrews who was performing his legitimate duties at a snap checkpoint at Kwesimintsim cemetery.

Though like many a Ghanaian, we received with shock the news of the arrest of the head of Sekondi Takoradi Municipal Security Council over alleged traffic and other offences. However, we were not surprised to hear he could not have gone without the Laws taking its course under the quintessential leadership of DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman as the Regional Police Command. What a way to restore, affirm, and maintain the dignity of the Ghana Police Service!

As professional and practising journalists association, again, like many a Ghanaian, we believe that the Ghana Police Service over the years had been struggling to maintain the high standards of the profession due to interferences, pulling of string and lack of support by stakeholders in the discharge their legitimate duties.

We, in the media, could feel a new wind is blowing in the Ghana Police Service. It’s a good wind, to at least restore the dignity of the Service. Obviously, change does not happen overnight. We believe that if the Police Service would be able to live up to its mantra: Service With Integrity, if they live-above reproach and act professionally, with time, they will make every Ghanaian proud again.

As we join the whole Nation to condemn the alleged behaviour of Mr Abdul-Mumin Issah let us all endeavour to protect and defend the Good Name of Ghana in all spheres of life.

We believe in fairness and justice as we wait patiently for the outcome of this case.

Long live Atwima Media Practicisoners Association!

Long live Ghana, our beloved Country!

Signed
