Dr Tony Aubynn Mourns Late Sister

A befitting customary burial celebration is being held in honour of the late queen mother of Wassa Daamang, Nana Yaa Afrah , the sister of the Executive Committee Members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Tony Aubynn.

Known in the Akan’s parlance as ‘Dote Yie’, the customary burial celebration of late Queen mother of Wassa Daamang began on Thursday February 17, 2022, when she was laid in state at a typical Akan’s village fashion called the ‘Ohemaa Akuraa’ for family members and sympathisers to pay their last respect.

Nana Yaa Afrah known in her private life as Theresah Sekyi was born on November 20, 1948 to Opanin Kofi Anowuo Sekyi and Maame Yaa Mbrah . She joined her ancestors at Wassa Daamang Royal Cemetery in the night of Friday February 18, 2022 .

Dr Tony Aubynn who is also the Abakomahene of Wassa Daamang Traditional Area with the stool name Nana Ampesi Bene Mireku, Nana Amoakwaa II, chief of Daamang, elders and family have been joined in mourning by several hundreds of high profile personalities and sympathisers across the country since last Thursday.

Notable among high profile personalities who joined the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Board Chairman of APEX Bank Ghana, and Board Chairman of Amanfiman Rural Bank to mourn her sister were Mr Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, former Chief of Staff, DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman, Western Regional Police Commander, and Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Board Chairperson of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and former Member of Parliament for Prestia Huni-Valley.

The rest were Mr Moses Ampong, vice Board Chairman of APEX Bank Ghana, Mr Alex Akwasi Awuah, Managing Director of APEX Bank Ghana, and Nana Quidu, Board Secretary of APEX Bank Ghana.

Superintendent Kwaku Ayepa, Staff Officer at the Western Regional Police Command and five other were the children of the late queen mothera and her husband, Mr Joseph Owusu-Kwarteng.
