Dumsor’ Hits Kumasi Kejetia

Total darkness at Kejetia on Thursday morning

BUSINESS ACTIVITIES at the New Kejetia Market in Kumasi has suffered a setback.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power supply to the beautiful facility.

The market is alleged to owe the ECG a whopping Ghc 5 million of unpaid light bills.

The ECG’s attempt to collect the money from the managers of Kejetia didn’t work.

So as a last resort, the ECG curtailed power supply to the Kejetia Market on Wednesday.

When visited the place on Thursday morning, there was total darkness.

The traders said the darkness also known as ‘Dumsor’ is affecting their businesses.

Nana Prempeh, a trader, said the traders are in difficult times following ECG’s action.

“The traders will leave the facility if power supply is not restored by Thursday evening”.

He appealed to managers of Kejetia to provide a meter to each shop to avert problems.

According to him, over 7,000 shops operating with a single meter is not the best practice.
