The Ministry of Communications and Dignitalzation in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) have commissioned and handed over a newly constructed Information and Communication Technology Center (ICT) to Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School (SEWASS), Capital of the Western North Region.
The facility formed part of government’s vision to equip institutions with ICT connectivity project which aims to boost teaching and learning technology in the country.
At a short ceremony to hand over the facility to school authorities for usage, the Minister for Communications and Dignitalzation, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekufu said the ICT laboratory was built to help improve upon ICT learning in the various schools in order to raised more IT expertise in a near future.
She indicated that, 40- seater ICT laboratory comes with a well-furnished learning materials including computers, printers and its accessories to make the lab more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The Minister, who is also the Legislator for Ablekuma West Constituency, said his outfit together with the GIFEC were committed to supporting schools to create an enabling environment to encourage the learning of ICT in the country.
The Minister advised the school management to ensure that the items were well maintained to serve their intended purpose.
The Assistant headmaster of the Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School, Mr Benjamin Bawa thanked government for increasing infrastructure facilities such as dormitory, classroom block, teachers quarters among others to encourage their stay on campus and assured the Minister for regular maintenance of the facility.
Mr Bawa also appealed to the Ministry of Communications to procured more computers to help increase enrolment in the school.
