The Assembly Member for Abotanso Electoral Area in the Asunafo North Municipal in the Ahafo Region, Mr Benjamin Osei Sarfo has noted that the delay in appointing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) is deepening disaffection among members at the grassroot.
Young but dynamic Assembly Member said, in most districts, “the incumbent DCE or MCE is being contested by constituency executives for the post”, the situation apart from rivalry among contestants, had made it difficult to organise meetings at constituency levels.
In an exclusive interview with Myvoicenews.com, Mr Osei Sarfo said, the contest for MMDCE post had brought cracks in the Party at the local levels, making the work of the assembly members difficult.
“It is difficult to go to a contestant for MMDCE post for meetings or discussions. On the other hand, when a contestant see you very often with an incumbent it is also problem for we the Assembly members”, he added.
He added that in some jurisdictions, Members of Parliament had been accused for supporting particular candidate, which could cost the Party in future elections.
He proposed that, one way to end factionalism at grassroots of the Party was to nominate MMDCEs immediately, so that other candidates could rally behind the President’s nominee.
