Nick Cannon will be stepping in to cover for Jamie Foxx as the host of Beat Shazam as the singer and actor continues his recovery from an unspecified “medical complication.”
The Hollywood Reporter announced the news on Thursday (May 4), as Foxx remains in the hospital following his admittance last month. As of now, Cannon will handle all of season six.
“This season, not wanting fans of the game show to miss a minute of the fun, Nick Cannon has offered to fill in as guest host for his friends, Jamie and Corrine Foxx. Kelly Osbourne will be filling in as guest DJ,” Beat Shazam said in a statement. “Everyone at FOX Entertainment wishes Jamie well as he continues his recovery, and we greatly appreciate Nick’s willingness to jump in and help this summer.”
Foxx thanked Cannon for the help on his Instagram Story following the announcement, writing, “Appreciate ya my boy @nickcannon. See u all soon,” along with a screenshot of his daughter Corinne’s post sharing the news. Corinne serves as the DJ and co-host of the show, but will be taking the time off to remain with her father in recovery.
Jamie Foxx’s hospitalization was first announced by Corinne last month. She revealed he had experienced an unspecified “medical complication,” but was already on the mend.
“From the Foxx Family. We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” she said in a statement. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”
She added: “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, the Foxx Family.”
TMZ reported at the time that Jamie Foxx’s condition was serious enough that he had to be taken to the hospital, with members of his family visiting him. He was said to be “communicating now, and that’s good news.”
Over a week later, a source close to the actor/singer told PEOPLE that he was “awake and alert.”
“He’s OK, thank God,” the source said. “He’s still in the hospital and doctors are running tests but he’s awake and alert. They’re keeping him under observation.”
On Wednesday (May 3), Foxx spoke out for the first time since the hospitalization. “Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed,” the 55-year-old wrote in his Instagram post.
Following his post, several friends and fans including Mary J. Blige, Ellen Degeneres, John Legend, wished the singer a speedy recovery in the comment section.
