Police beef up security in Wa and its environs in response to safety concerns

The Police have scaled up security in Wa and its environs in the Upper West Region following safety concerns raised by residents.

In this regard, the Police said, a special purpose investigation and intelligence teams as well additional police visibility and crime combat teams have been deployed to Wa under the leadership of the Director-General of Operations.

“Once again, we wish to assure the public that we will continue to work towards ensuring the safety and security of all persons across the country,” a statement said.

Youth of Wa on Friday September 16 staged a demonstration amidst burning of lorry tyres to register their displeasure following yet another suspected kidnapping issue that has bedeviled the Wa municipality over the last few months.

Nine persons were reportedly kidnapped with four of them killed and parts of their bodies removed between 2021 and September this year.

The youth before embarking on the demonstration besieged the Wa Naa’s palace to register their displeasure over recent happenings.

Police in Wa used tear gas to disperse the angry mob.

The Upper West regional security council on Thursday September 15 issued a statement underlining measures to deal with the surge in criminal activities in the Wa municipality after a stakeholders engagement organized by the Police administration.
