Tariq Lamptey to be sidelined for several more months due to his injury

According to the coach of Brighton & Hove Albion, Roberto De Zerbi, Tariq Lamptey’s injury sustained in a match against West Ham United last month may keep him out for several more months.

Lamptey, who was substituted in the 16th minute of the game, was expected to be fit for the Black Stars’ upcoming games against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification round. Kingsley Schindler assumed his post since he was unable to recover in time.

Before their encounter against Bournemouth on Tuesday at the Vitality Stadium, De Zerbi acknowledged that Lamptey’s injury was a difficult situation.

“It’s a difficult situation, we will see in the next week [about Tariq],” De Zerbi said. “To have some solution on the bench in the coming weeks is important. In the last game, we finished with Solly March and Pascal Gross [in defence].”

Greater London’s Hillingdon is where Lamptey was born. Before enrolling in the Chelsea academy at the age of eight, he was a youth football player for his neighbourhood side, Larkspur Rovers.

On December 29, 2019, Lamptey made his Premier League debut for Chelsea against Arsenal on the road. Lamptey came on for Fikayo Tomori in the 59th minute and was an energetic figure as Chelsea came back from a goal down to win 2-1.
