The Weeknd Sparks Fan Concern With Cryptic Tweet — but Was He Just Quoting a Song?

The Weeknd has sparked fan concern with a tweet seemingly kissing the world goodbye, but it might not be quite as alarming as some fans believe.

“Goodbye earth,” the Canadian crooner wrote to his 17.3 million Twitter followers on Tuesday night (May 2), leaving many worrying about his wellbeing.

“Bro are you okay are you high who did this to you?” one concerned fan replied, while another user asked: “Ummmm [raised eyebrow emoji] you good bro??”

Someone else let the singer know, “you are loved,” while another told him: “If you need somebody to talk. i’m here Please don’t do it.”

As pointed out by one astute fan in his replies, though, The Weeknd appeared to have just been quoting the title of Mike Dean’s synth-laden “Goodbye Earth” song from the producer’s new 4:23 album, which the XO hitmaker co-executive produced and makes numerous appearances on.

“That moment when people don’t remember this is a song from the mike dean album LMAO,” the fan wrote.

Another observant listener helped to calm the concern by tweeting: “Mike Dean – 4:23 (stop worrying it’s a song).”

Mike Dean’s latest project arrived on April 29 and found The Weeknd contributing to four tracks in total: “Artificial Intelligence,” “Defame Moi,” “More Coke!!” and “Emotionless,” which he also co-wrote.

The pair are no strangers to collaborating as Dean worked on the singer’s 2015 album Beauty Behind the Madness and “Where You Belong,” from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

Dean also served as a supporting act on The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour last year.

More recently, Mike Dean and The Weeknd collaborated on “Double Fantasy” alongside Future, which will appear on the upcoming soundtrack to the singer’s HBO series The Idol.

Co-created by Abel Tesfaye, The Idol is set to premiere on HBO on June 4 and also stars Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney and more.

The raunchy and already controversial series finds the Toronto megastar playing the role of a self-help guru, club owner and leader of a modern-day cult, who starts dating a pop artist looking to regain her celebrity status.
