World’s oldest dog, Bobi celebrates 31st birthday

Bobi, who holds a Guinness World Record, is now 31 years old. Due to his significant birthday, the Portuguese dog is both the oldest canine currently alive and the oldest dog ever identified.

The dog’s birthday was celebrated on Saturday by his family. The owner of Bobi, Leonel Costa, asserted that Bobi’s lifespan was due to the tranquil climate of southern Portugal.

Rafeiro do Alentejo, a Portuguese dog breed that is trained to guard livestock, is a purebred, and Bobi is one of them.

Owner Leonel Costa tells Guinness that the event will be “very traditional” in character. More than 100 people are to come, and a dance troupe is slated to perform, according to the news release.

Since being named the oldest dog in the world, Bobi has drawn a lot of interest, Costa told Guinness.

“We’ve had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi,” he said in the release.

He added that the senior pup was in good health and recently received a check-up due to Costa’s concerns about the stress of frequent visitors.

“There were a lot of pictures taken and he had to get up and down many times,” he said in the release. “It wasn’t easy for him.”

In addition to being the oldest dog currently living, Bobi is also the oldest dog ever recorded, according to Guinness. Costa was just 8 years old when his canine companion was born.

“Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world,” he said in the release.
